whoa, finally uploaded the camera with owen’s first day of kindergarten picture:

i am putting a couple of other first day pictures in the gallery, too.
owen is  loving kindergarten and doing really well.  he goes 6 hours a day, 3 days a week.  the way they have the schedule structured, the teacher gets on one one reading time with each of the (18) kids in class – EVERY DAY.  i’m pretty happy about this.  the teacher is also really into communication with the parents, and we’ve emailed several times.  the nurse calls almost every day to ask some question or another about food allergies, which is comforting.  yesterday she called and said she had owen in the office, though – he had taken a bite of apple, lost a tooth in the apple and swallowed it.  he was devastated, because he thought the tooth fairy wouldn’t come.  he drew a picture of the tooth and the tooth fairy was kind (and even remembered.)

iris, in her 2nd week of preschool, has realized that it’s sometimes inconvenient to go to school, because what if you were playing a really fun game at home?  or hadn’t had time to get dressed yet?  and so she was upset to go to school today.  the teachers are very sweet, though, and gave her some extra support at the start of class.  i’m sure she’s fine.  they report that she is very quiet and observant in class – i wonder how long it will take her to jump in.  i’m not at all worried about it, i think it’s cool that she is cautious and studious.

iris had her first day of preschool on thursday the 10th, and loved it – although she said it wasn’t long enough.
owen asked her if she met any new friends and she said, “nope, but i ate cookies.”

i was feeling very proud of myself for finally completing the mountain of school registration paperwork to get owen into kindergarten and iris started in preschool…then we went to their open houses and came back with another pile of paperwork.  sigh.

owen is going to have to start catching the bus at 7:35 am, which means my days of staying in bed until 8 while they play upstairs are over.  but his bus stop is right at the corner, so that’s nice.

iris is excited to start preschool, but is still fighting the potty training.  she knows how to do it, she can do everything by herself, but she doesn’t want to take the time to go.  we’re hoping that she gets with the program when she realizes that the other kids are doing it without complaining (and hopefully that’s what is happening.)

owen had a lot of anxiety about starting school, but he got over that with a couple of trips to the school to do paperwork and meet the teacher.  he has a mini session on wednesday and his first full day  (8 to 3!) is friday the 11th.  he will go m/w/f from 8 to 3 and iris goes tu/thu.

owen wants me to follow him to school the first day to help him get to his classroom and everything, so i’m sure we will be posting the obligatory “first day of kindergarten” picture next week.

that’s about it for news, except that paul is at this moment putting together the bookshelf we got at ikea.  after three long years of no books at all, we are going to start unpacking them ~ it’s pretty exciting.  and a little scary, i hope they aren’t all moldy and covered with bugs.

owen is kind of the ringleader of this – i’m sorry, harry is – but iris, er…hermione… is getting pretty into the whole thing as well.  we went ahead and ordered their halloween costumes and feel certain they will wear them every day between now and the time that they turn into little piles of shredded fabric and have to be thrown away.

got some good art from the minis today, including:

so iris is super into barbies.

we have a pile of them, but we have a shortage of outfits for them – and you know, the barbie clothes are expensive!  i looked on ebay but i don’t have time to comb through all that stuff.  the “cool” ones are vintage and “not intended for children.”  (WHAT?!?)

so if any one has the inside track on a box of barbie clothes sitting in a garage somewhere, lost and forlorn, i know a mini that would bring them to life again.
